"Here I Go Over again" is a song by British stone ring Whitesnake. Originally released on their 1982 album, Saints & Sinners, the ability carol was re-recorded for their 1987 self-titled album. The song was re-recorded again the same year in a new "radio-mix" version, which was released as a single and striking number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on ten October 1987, and number nine on the UK Singles Chart on 28 November 1987. The 1987 version also hit number one on the Canadian Singles Nautical chart on 24 October 1987.

In 2003, Q magazine ranked it 962nd on their list of 1001 "Best Songs Ever".[7] In 2006, the 1987 version was ranked number 17 on VH1'south 100 Greatest Songs of the '80s.[viii] In 2012 Reader'due south Poll of Rolling Rock it ranked as 9th among Elevation ten "The Best Hair Metallic Songs of All Time".[2] In 2017, The Daily Telegraph included information technology amongst Superlative 21 best power ballads.[9]

Background and writing [edit]

The vocal was written past the lead singer, David Coverdale, and sometime Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden. The about notable difference between the original and re-recorded versions are a slight change in the bluesy lyrics and pace.[10] The re-recording of the song in 1987 was brash by record labels bosses Al Coury and David Geffen every bit a negotiation bargain with Coverdale to re-tape "Crying in the Rain" for the ring'due south self-titled anthology Whitesnake released in 1987.[11] [12] [13]

The chorus of the original version features the lines:

Music video [edit]

The '82 music video features the band performing the song onstage.[12] The music video for the '87 re-recorded version was directed by Marty Callner.[15] The video includes, besides the band'south stage functioning, appearances by model Julie E. "Tawny" Kitaen, who was married to Whitesnake's David Coverdale from 1989 to 1991.[2] [12] Her notable sex-appeal was immediately recognized, having memorable unchoreographed scenes dressed "in a white negligee, writhing and cartwheeling beyond the hoods of two Jaguars XJ" which belonged to Coverdale (white) and Callner (black).[15] [xvi] [17] Coverdale recalls that he even brought choreographer Paula Abdul to the set to show some moves to Coverdale's girlfriend Tawny, but only to positively exclaim that she couldn't "show her anything".[18] [19] [20] Coverdale'south iconic white Jaguar again appeared in the music video for single "Shut Up & Osculation Me" from their 2019 studio album Flesh & Blood.[xviii] [21]

The song's '87 video was placed on New York Times list of the fifteen Essential Pilus-Metal Videos.[22]

This version topped the charts,[12] and appeared on the Greatest Hits album in 1994 (iii:54).

In 1987, EMI released a limited Collectors Affiche Edition 'USA Unmarried Remix' 7" vinyl [EMP 35], the B-side of which consists of an engraved signature version, and the sleeve of which unfolds into a poster of the ring.[25] In 1997 the ring recorded an acoustic version, released on their Starkers in Tokyo alive album.[12]

Chart performance [edit]

This song is notable for being the only Whitesnake song to become airplay on developed contemporary stations despite the fact "Is This Love" reached number 38 there and this vocal did not chart at all on the Air-conditioning charts.[26]

  • A dance comprehend version by Frash was a minor striking in the UK in 1995, reaching number 69.[48]
  • In 2004, a dance/pop version of "Here I Get Again" was recorded by Polish dancer and singer Mandaryna.[49] Released as the debut single from her debut album Mandaryna.com, the song became a hit in Poland. It was later remixed by Axel Konrad of Groove Coverage for the unmarried release in German speaking countries.
